What is Vetmedin?
Vetmedin is a medicine for dogs suffering from congestive heart failure caused by valvular insufficiency, or dilated cardiomyopathy. It is designed to ease blood flow to the heart, increasing its efficiency as a pump. It comes in the form of hard capsules and is available in a variety of doses. Vetmedin should be taken as directed by your vet, usually orally and twice a day.
After this treatment, dog owners may notice an improvement in their pet’s condition as their blood pressure reduces. There are certain heart conditions, where this is not an appropriate treatment, for example when the opening of the main blood vessels to the heart is affected. In these cases, your Vet will advise an alternative treatment.
Rare reactions to Vetmedin include an increase in mitral valve insufficiency, vomiting, diarrhoea, lethargy, reduced appetite, and a slight heart rate increase. In the event of your dog receiving an overdose of Vetmedin, then you should contact your vet immediately for appropriate treatment.
This product is only suitable for the treatment of animals and should never be used on humans. It should be kept away from children out of sight and out of reach. In the event of this product being ingested by humans, then medical attention should be sought immediately.
How does Vetmedin work?
Vetmedin works by opening the main blood vessels leading to the heart, thus reducing overall blood pressure. Vetmedin is taken orally as a hard capsule twice a day.
What are the benefits of Vetmedin?
